2Dice Burmese Chess

This my version of Burmese Chess:

1. Standard layout.
- No check, no check mate ... the goal is to capture enemy's king.
- Castle is regulated like in traditional chess and 6-4 or4-6 has to be rolled in order to perform it.
- En passant is regulated like in traditional chess .
2. Players roll 2 dice .
3. Player has to move twice according to the dice face values, in any order ... it's understood that when there is no more piece available that matches the the roll on any die, player looses his/her turn ... double roll plays a role of joker in this game.
4. When the roll shows double, player has ONE FREE move (only), but cannot capture enemy's king with during this move, the exception is a pawn (which has this power).
5. 1-1 is the only exception where the player has a choice to either move :
- one pawn twice (double move from starting position is considered as one move)
- two pawns once each ...
- or make ONE FREE move.
-when no more pawns on the board 1-1 is used as ONE FREE move by any piece
- pawns CAN capture the enemy king as a result of ONE FREE move ...

Hippodrome record

This is my invention, published on Zillions of Games .... chess solitaire called Hippodrome.
All 16 noble pieces are randomly placed on 4x4 board and one of them is removed ... All 4 Knights are placed in the first row ... the goal is to move all 4 Knights to the top row in smaller number of moves ... as you can see my record for now is 21 moves (all Knights are at the top.

Catastrophic Series in Chessayra

The idea came to me tonight ... Tsunami, Earthquakes, Volcanos ... all these powerful, natural phenomena are with us forever and it looks they are more often now than before ... I was trying to be as close as possible to what people may experience ... tsunami hits the shores, volcanos sleep before they erupt and in most cases warn before they strike, quakes have their epicenters and all these characteristics are included in my variants ... are they perfect ? NO, they are not, there are other tons of different solutions and ways of implementing variants ... but you have to decide and pick one ... I hope you like this variants below ... they are created with software in mind ... and these variants are ticking bombs of sort ... you never know when disaster strikes and I had one (sick) idea on my kind ... to scare you !!! lol ... have fun ...

Quake Chess (catastrophic series)

What we have here is the picture of Quake Chess in action ... Quake can hit anytime and anywhere in Chessayara ... and it can hit ONLY ONCE during the course of the game. Nobody knows WHEN and WHERE it hits ... but it will ... the read round circle is the epicenter of the Quake .... any piece that happen to be there during the hit, is destroyed ... any other pieces that touch to the epicenter are in shock and reduced to pawns ... (pawns are not affected)
There maybe another after-shock ... but nobody knows IF it happens ... so be on the watch.

For clarity I didn't put any pieces on the board ...

Game starts with traditional setup ... when King is destroyed the player looses the game ... same when the King is reduced to pawn ... when both Kings are destroyed or reduced it's a draw ...

Tsunami Chess (catastrophic series)

What you can see above it the situation after Tsunami hit the WEST shore of Chessayra. All the pieces, white and black, hit by the wave are destroyed. Below is a detailed "tsunami theory" ... please read it ...

For clarity I didn't put any pieces on the board. Game starts in traditional way.
Our land of Chessayra is between two oceans, LEFT one and RIGHT one ... disaster of huge wave called Tsunami can hit either of its shores ... the picture above shows the minimum Tsunami on the left (just one column) and a maximum Tsunami wave to the right (3 columns at the most) ... to make it simpler: if Tsunami hits it can be somewhere between on column and 3 columns wide and EVERYTHING in between ... these situations above are just extreme and not very likely to happens ... the first picture above shows you a typical Tsunami vave:
Tsunami hits only once during the game and acan hit at any time, without a warning, and both shore are in danger ...



Volcano Chess (catastrophic series)

For more clarity I didn't put pieces on the board. Starting position for Volcano Chess is as in regular chess ... rows 4 and 5 are places with volcanic activity and ONE volcano will be put randomly at the beginning of the game (as you can see above). This volcano is not ative.
Players can put their pieces on it at will. But be careful, any time during the course of the game, volcano awakens and the color of it changes to red ... any piece that was on the top of volcano is swallow by it. Now look at the next diagram:


At that moment, volcano sends a warning that lava will start flowing soon ... WHEN ?
Nobody knows (except software, of course) ... so, start protecting your pieces and try to escape.

Eruption began ... lava started to flow and it flows along Queen's path ... every pieces that is still on its path is destroyed ... player that looses his/her King looses the game, if both Kings are detroyed it's a draw ...

8Choice Chess


there are many dice chess variations, but all of them, to the best of my knowledge, deal with
6 sided dice and the number on a die tells which chess figure has to move ... there are games with one die and two dice ... but there are many, many other types of dice and one of them is
8 sided die ... 8 numbers correspond to the number of rows and columns on a chess board ... hence my idea of new variant ... instead of using 6 sided die and telling the player what piece to use, we can play using TWO 8 sided dice and choose either a row or a column to move our piece ... as usual you can substitute 8 sided dice using two packs of cards from Ace to 8 in different colors and simply draw two cards before your move ... put these cards back to the deck, shuffle, and the next player is ready to draw.
There is one interesting issue ... how can we tell which die is for rows and which for columns ... look above at the yellow and black die ... yellow shows number 6, but is it column or row ?
Well, before the game starts players have to agree and assign which color is for rows and which for colums ... same with playing cards ... let's say diamonds for rows and spades for columns ...
But how about when we have two 8 sided dice with the same colors ? You may agree that the lowest number is always for row and highest always a column ...

Special moves follow:

1. When the same numbers are rolled on both dice you are entitled to TWO moves ... one from the row and the second one from the column, if possible ...
2. This is not all ... one more surprise ... the piece on the intersection of row and column can move TWICE, if possible ...

Columns are of course in better position at the beginning of the game, since no matter what, you have a move from all columns ... role of rows will increase during the course of play, when you start moving pieces deeper into the board ...

Prime Chess

1. e4 e6 . ... Qf6 (something missing ? No, read on below)

Prime numbers are one of the most elegant set of numbers. Here is the list of first of them:
2-3-5-7-11-13-17-19-23-29-31-37 etc ... these are numbers that are divisible only by 1 and by themselves. In this variant I took these numbers and "plug" them as move numbers. Prime numbers changes the order pieces traditionally move. Every time moves get to prime number, BLACK moves first and WHITE follow ... this is my contribution to make the game of chess more equal.
Here is the list of the first moves, prime moves in red:

Every5 Chess

4th Row and 6th Column are frozen

If you like unexpected in chess you will like this variant ... what you see above is the situation after the 5th move ... every time black player plays 5th, 10th, 15th etc. move, one row and one column is frozen ... it stays frozen only through th 6th, 16th, 26th and so on moves ... and it means no move OUT , WITHIN and INTO this tandem is possible ... long range pieces cannot attack through frozen rows and colums and Kings are immune from attacks when inside frozen rows and columns ... Knights can jump over and pawns cannot move 2 fields from their starting position if it would require jump through frozen row. And it also means if white King was checked before frozen process began, white looses the game in case the only defence would be possible within affected row or coulmn (the same applies to black King) ... also, if either of the sites cannot move at all, game is lost ... it's easy for the software to manage this situations. When playing head to head, use two suits of cards from Ace to 8 and draw one card from each suit ... assign red suit for rows and black for columns ... enjoy.

Back to Back Chess



Another crazy variant ... all the rules remain unchanged. What is funny is the board and placement of pieces. White play downward (south) and continue at the top of the board ... Black play also downward (from its perspective of course) and continue at the top of the board (again, from its perpective) ... rows 4 and 5 DO NOT touch each other even if you see otherwise, lol

Revolt Chess




1. White has only noble pieces, without pawns ...

2. Black has no Rooks, no Bishops, no Knights (they were beheaded) , only Mr. Robespierre and his Wife Chessina ... Mr. Robespierre moves like a king and Chessina like a queen ... emtpy fields in the 8th row are populated by common soldiers (pawns) and 7th row is like in traditional chess.

3. As you can imagine, revolutionary war is going to start soon ... royal forces (white) against revolutionary crowd, lead by Mr. Robespierre and Chessina ...

4. Pawns at the 8th and 7th row can move two squares initially ... en passant is available for both rows.

5. Goal is like in chess ... check mate the opponents king (Louis XVI for white or Mr. Robespierre for black pieces) ...

6. Black commoners can promote to another commoners (pawns) or lady Chessina, and they can be put anywhere on the board ...

7. Mr. Robespierre cannot castle ...

Grunwald Chess



600 years ago, in 1410, there was one of the biggest battle in Europe called Battle of Grunwald. Predominant role was played by knights and I decided to commemorate this big event by creating a new chess variant called Grunwald Chess ...
The rules are exactly the same as in traditional chess, with the exceptions:
1. Knights can move also as pawns (including double move from starting position)
2. Knights can promote as in traditional chess only when they reach 8th or 1st row as a pawn ...
3. En passant is possible as long as knight moves two fields from its starting position as a pawn ...
4. Knights are entitled to move two fields as pawns as many times as they wish after reaching the 2nd and 7th row on their sites ...

Hope you like the idea ... no special equipment is necessary, playing at home, use pawns as knights.

Hi, this is my new blog entirely devoted to my chess variants. Enjoy being here

of pure imaginations and impulses that arise in me from time to time ... I do not like complicated rules and do not want to compete with well established chess variants.
