8Choice Chess
there are many dice chess variations, but all of them, to the best of my knowledge, deal with
6 sided dice and the number on a die tells which chess figure has to move ... there are games with one die and two dice ... but there are many, many other types of dice and one of them is
8 sided die ... 8 numbers correspond to the number of rows and columns on a chess board ... hence my idea of new variant ... instead of using 6 sided die and telling the player what piece to use, we can play using TWO 8 sided dice and choose either a row or a column to move our piece ... as usual you can substitute 8 sided dice using two packs of cards from Ace to 8 in different colors and simply draw two cards before your move ... put these cards back to the deck, shuffle, and the next player is ready to draw.
There is one interesting issue ... how can we tell which die is for rows and which for columns ... look above at the yellow and black die ... yellow shows number 6, but is it column or row ?
Well, before the game starts players have to agree and assign which color is for rows and which for colums ... same with playing cards ... let's say diamonds for rows and spades for columns ...
But how about when we have two 8 sided dice with the same colors ? You may agree that the lowest number is always for row and highest always a column ...
Special moves follow:
1. When the same numbers are rolled on both dice you are entitled to TWO moves ... one from the row and the second one from the column, if possible ...
2. This is not all ... one more surprise ... the piece on the intersection of row and column can move TWICE, if possible ...
Columns are of course in better position at the beginning of the game, since no matter what, you have a move from all columns ... role of rows will increase during the course of play, when you start moving pieces deeper into the board ...
